A court in Cherkasy extended the house arrest of Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv for 60 days on April 5, 2024. This was reported by Suspilne.
The court granted the prosecutors' motion, citing risks that the suspect may flee from the investigation and influence witnesses. Another risk they highlighted is the unknown whereabouts of the main witness for over a year.
One of the "victims" demanded stricter measures and the recusal of the judge: "Despite the fact that the accused repeatedly violated the conditions of night house arrest and continues to incite religious enmity and promote religious intolerance, we request the recusal of the judge. We believe that there are sufficient grounds to impose stricter measures on the defendant."
However, the court did not accept his arguments.
As reported by the UOJ, on March 14, 2024, the court dismissed the prosecution's motion to detain Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv in custody in another criminal case.
