On May 9, 2021, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine, congratulated the Ukrainians on Victory Day after the memorial service for those killed during the Great Patriotic War near the Eternal Flame in the Park of Eternal Glory in Kyiv, the Information Center of the UOC reports on its Facebook page.

His Beatitude Onuphry noted that the soldiers, who died in the war, gave their lives on the battlefield so that we, their descendants, could live peacefully on earth. “I congratulate everyone on Victory Day. Today we honor those of our leaders and soldiers who laid down their lives on the battlefield, who gave their lives so that we can live on earth today,” the Primate said.

He also congratulated all citizens of Ukraine on the bright holiday of Easter. “Happy Easter and Victory Day!” summed up His Beatitude.

As the UOJ reported, on Victory Day in Kyiv, the Primate officiated a memorial service for the fallen soldiers.
