Andriy Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, stated at a press conference on April 19, 2024, that Russia will increase its activity in the information sphere after the Ukrainian parliament adopts a law banning the UOC. This was reported by LB.
"There is certain information that our enemy, among other things, is preparing certain campaigns of informational influence on church-related topics. Moreover, it is preparing certain organizations that will scream in our info space in the future (after the possible adoption of the law banning the UOC – Ed.). This is one of the threats," the publication quoted the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation.
Taking into account the information revealed by the American lawyer of the UOC, Robert Amsterdam that the majority of Ukrainian lawmakers are ready to adopt bill No. 8371, Kovalenko's words sound like preparation for this unconstitutional and anti-church step. Any criticism of the adoption of this law will be presented to the public as part of a Russian information campaign.
As the UOJ reported, an international human rights defender of the UOC underscored that "the UOC is one of the very few sources of independent thought left in Ukraine." Amsterdam also revealed that the authorities of Ukraine allocated $3.5 million to US lobbyists to destroy the UOC.
