MP: We need to request the Phanar for "temporary canonical status" for UOC

Member of Parliament from the "Servant of the People" faction Oleh Dunda stated that there are three conditions the Ukrainian Orthodox Church must fulfill at the request of the state. Dunda wrote about this in his column on the Glavcom website.

In his opinion, the signing of these conditions by the UOC should become a "pact of understanding with the state". Dunda attributed to the conditions the recognition by the UOC of Russia as an aggressor, the ideology of the "Russian world" as heretical and non-ecclesiastical, and the cessation of canonical or spiritual communion with the ROC.

At the same time, according to the MP, the state should "sweeten the pill" for the UOC:

"After accepting the three points, the UOC will end up in a completely non-canonical state, so, in order to sweeten the pill, the state should appeal to the Ecumenical Patriarch with a request to grant the UOC a "temporary canonical status".

As the UOJ reported, on March 27, 2024, in Moscow, a document was published under the title "Decree of the XXV World Russian People's Council 'The Present and Future of the Russian World'". The UOC Department for External Church Relations published a statement on this occasion, which underscores that "the Ukrainian Orthodox Church disassociates itself, categorically does not share and condemns the ideas set forth in this document."
