A meeting of the ambassadors of G7 countries with representatives of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organisations (AUCCRO) was held in Kyiv on 11 June 2024. According to the website news.church.ua, the event was attended by the head of the Information and Education Department of the UOC, Metropolitan Clement of Nizhyn and Pryluky and the deputy head of the UOC Department for External Church Relations, Archpriest Mykolay Danylevych.
The representatives of the UOC participated in the meeting with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine.
Metropolitan Clement informed the ambassadors about the large-scale social and humanitarian assistance provided by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, including support from institutions in Europe and other countries for the affected Ukrainian population and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“The bishop emphasized that by finding forms of cooperation between the Church and the Ukrainian state in the humanitarian sphere during the war, the Church has the opportunity to effectively demonstrate its mission and show love for the neighbour in Ukrainian society. This is especially true for regions that have become epicenters of hostilities,” the statement said.
As earlier reported, the Executive Committee of the World Council of Churches (WCC) addressed the governments of Russia and Ukraine with an appeal to “respect the fundamental human and moral right to conscientious objection to military service, even during war”.
