The public organization "Miriane" opposed the ratification of the Istanbul Convention by Ukraine and is preparing an action under the Verkhovna Rada with demands not to allow its adoption, reports the press service of the NGO "Miriane".
On April 29, 2021, the Cabinet of Ministers sent to the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky a bill on the ratification of the Istanbul Convention, developed by the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, which allows Ukraine not to apply certain of its provisions.
According to the representatives of the movement, the document consolidates the concept of "gender", which has nothing to do with biological sex and contributes to the spread of LGBT ideas, same-sex marriage, and the transgender movement.
“This is despite the fact that such countries as Great Britain, Lithuania, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Moldova, Bulgaria, Greece, Armenia refused to ratify it. Poland, Hungary and Slovenia express their intention to denounce the agreement, and Turkey, which was the first to ratify the Istanbul Convention, withdrew from it in March this year, stating that it will adhere to traditional values, the NGO "Miriane” wrote on Facebook.
The Istanbul Convention contradicts the Christian worldview, destroys traditional family values and violates Article 15 of the Constitution of Ukraine, which states that no ideology can be recognized by the state as mandatory, the social movement said.
As the UOJ reported earlier, representatives of the AUCCRO explained to the deputies the risks of the Istanbul Convention.
