On June 22, 2021, the UOC Chancellor, Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich) of Boryspil and Brovary, said that the Great Patriotic War is a pain that passes through generations.

In an interview with the "1Kozak" channel, after the memorial service for those killed in the Great Patriotic War, which was committed by the hierarchs and clergy of the UOC in Kyiv, Vladyka noted that "there is not a single family that does not feel pain because of the consequences of that war".

“I don't know what a grandfather is: my father when he was little, at the age of 5, saw his father, who went to war and did not return. This is pain that goes through our generation, ” Metropolitan Anthony emphasized.

According to Vladyka, "our duty is to pray for the repose of the souls of those who gave their lives at the front and in the rear in order to defend their Motherland".

“Today we also prayed for the health of those front-line soldiers – veterans who are so few left. And we pray that the Lord will give them health so that their example will be before our eyes. And prayer is love,” said the bishop.

He also stressed that the representatives of the UOC prayed for peace in our Homeland: "the Ukrainian Orthodox Church always prays for our people, for the Motherland."

Metropolitan Anthony noted that the clergy of the UOC also pray that "there will never be more of those ideologies of fascism and Nazism".

“Because not only the victims of such an ideology perish, but, as the experience of history shows, the bearers of the ideas of Nazism themselves,” and if we “do not remember those pages of history, we will not have a future,” resumed the UOC Chancellor.

As reported earlier, with the participation of the Presidential Regiment, a soldier of the Nazi SS division "Galicia" was serviced over in the main cathedral of the OCU.
