Media: Pope participated in the release of Metropolitan Jonathan

Russian media, citing the head of the World Union of Old Believers, Leonid Sevastianov, report that Pope Francis participated in negotiations for the release of Metropolitan Jonathan of Tulchyn and Bratslav, according to TASS.

The agency claims that Sevastianov has a personal contact with the pontiff. Patriarch Kirill is reported to have requested the head of the Vatican to assist in the release of Metropolitan Jonathan.

"Pope Francis is also working on the release of other bishops," said the head of the Old Believers.

As the UOJ previously wrote, on June 22, 2024, through the intercession of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Metropolitan Jonathan of Tulchyn and Bratslav was released following negotiations.
