On July 23, an international lawyer for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Robert Amsterdam, met with Sir Duncan Smith, a member of the British Parliament and an influential conservative politician. This was reported by the Dozor_kozak1 Telegram channel.
It is noted that Mr. Smith was one of the signatories of an open letter to the Prime Minister's Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief, Fiona Bruce, expressing concern about issues of religious freedom in Ukraine.
British parliamentarians, along with the Church of England, are particularly worried about the unconstitutional bill 8371, calibrated to decimate the UOC.
Following the meeting, Robert Amsterdam shared with the channel a joint stance with Sir Duncan on the law banning the UOC: "It is clear that the Church of England should be supported in terms of its concerns over this bill! NO VIOLATION OF FREEDOM OF RELIGION!"
As the UOJ previously reported, British politicians have expressed concerns regarding bill 8371.
