Political analyst Kostiantyn Bondarenko suggests that Petro Poroshenko and his party's pressure in parliament to pass a law banning the UOC may not succeed. He stated this in a comment to the resource 'Strana'.

Bondarenko believes that the authorities are not interested in passing bill № 8371.

"Nobody will want to give him (Poroshenko – Ed.) a gift in the form of this law, which he would, of course, call his victory. Bankova has decided that it's better off not taking the risk," he noted.

He believes that the authorities will not stop pressuring the UOC: "There will still be criminal cases, and churches will continue to be seized."

"But without drastic measures such as formally legislating the UOC ban," the political analyst said.

As previously reported by the UOJ, MP Yevhen Shevchenko believes that the prospect of sanctions has shaken the MPs' willingness to ban the UOC.
