Seized from UOC St. George Cathedral to be transferred to OCU in Kaniv

On August 10, the Cherkasy Regional Administration initiates a "general meeting of the religious community" of the Holy Dormition (St. George) Cathedral in Kaniv, which the state took away from the UOC, to transfer the shrine into the jurisdiction of the OCU. The corresponding ordinance has already been forwarded to supporters of the Dumenko structure.
"Cherkasy Regional Military Administration considered the appeal of the religious organization 'Kaniv Assumption Cathedral' dated 31.07.2024 regarding the granting of permission to hold a general meeting of the religious community in the city of Kaniv and inform. (...) Cherkasy Regional Military Administration approves holding a general meeting of the religious community in the city of Kaniv on 10.08.2024 at 10:00 AM in connection with the change of canonical and jurisdictional affiliation from the 'Ukrainian Orthodox Church' to the 'Orthodox Church of Ukraine' provided that security and shelters are ensured," the decision of the Cherkassy Regional State Administration said.
As reported by the UOJ, on May 23, 2024, a court was held in connection with the appeal of the Kyiv Metropolitanate of the UOC regarding the decision of the Economic Court of Cherkasy region to return the Assumption Cathedral of the XII century in Kaniv, Cherkasy region, to state ownership.
