On August 27, Metropolitan Epifaniy, the head of the OCU, held a meeting with Carlo Formosa, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Ukraine, according to the OCU press service.

During the meeting, Dumenko informed the ambassador about the religious situation in the country, state-church relations, human rights violations in temporarily occupied territories, as well as the harmful ideology of the "Russian world" and international support for Ukraine.

Epifaniy stated that Moscow is trying to use all possible means to inflict the greatest harm on Ukraine, including in the spiritual sphere. The state is resisting these challenges, clearly seeing the threat to national security through the enemy's use of religious organizations. The OCU head also requested continued support for Ukraine.

As reported by the UOJ, Zelensky reacted to the Pope’s remarks in defense of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, stating that Russian propaganda is active abroad and stressing the importance of maintaining connections with both the Vatican and Italy.
