In the Transcarpathian region, a local head of a military registration and enlistment office (TRC) has requested that the head of a territorial community provide a list of UOC clergy by 6:00 PM on September 23, 2024, in both print and electronic formats. This information was published by the Dozor_kozak1 Telegram channel.
The directive states that the TRC is acting in accordance with the mobilization law and is aiming to identify those avoiding military service.
"This is a very alarming step in the campaign of discrimination and persecution against the largest Christian denomination in Ukraine," journalists noted, adding that the authorities likely took this step due to the strong public support for the UOC in Transcarpathia.
As reported by the UOJ, on September 22, after the Divine Liturgy in Transcarpathia, TRC representatives detained two UOC priests. In the evening, after protests by believers, the clergy – Father Vasyl Huk of the Khust Epachy and Father Stepan of the Odesa Eparchy – were released.
