The Third All-Ukrainian Scientific Conference "Thanatology: Death and Around Death in European Culture" was held in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, where the issue of preserving the Lavra caves was discussed, reports the Reserve's press service.

Kostiantyn Krainiy, Deputy Director General of the Reserve for Scientific Work, emphasized that the Lavra caves, where more than 120 Christian ascetics rest, require special care and scientific study.

"Natural and anthropogenic factors have influenced the state and appearance of this site throughout its existence. They require special care and attention for preservation, as well as scientific study and dissemination of knowledge about the importance of this Christian shrine and national heritage. This year's conference is largely aimed at finding optimal conditions for protecting this historical cemetery," he said.

As reported by UOJ, Mariana Tomyn, Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and head of the commission for transferring the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra's assets to the state, announced that an "inventory" of the relics of the Kyiv-Pechersk Saints would be conducted in the monastery caves.
