Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) expressed his gratitude to the faithful for defending the St. Michael's Cathedral of the Cherkasy Eparchy of the UOC, the diocese reported.
The Metropolitan shared that the people in camouflage, who were gathering in groups of 20-30 near the cathedral and arriving by car, did not dare to storm the UOC shrine.
“I thank each of you for your prayers. For choosing not to sleep during the night, standing in the cold, praying. Asking the Holy Mother and the Venerable Martyr Macarius to protect us. Thank you for not only loving your Church but being ready to defend it when necessary.”
Metropolitan Theodosiy expressed hope that through prayers, they will not only protect St. Michael's Cathedral in Cherkasy but the entire Orthodox Church.
As previously reported by the UOJ, on the night of September 30, unknown individuals in camouflage attempted to seize the St. Michael's Cathedral of the UOC in Cherkasy. Believers gathered around the cathedral for a prayer vigil, and the public outcry prevented the church raiders from carrying out their plan.
