On October 17, 2024, believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in the city of Cherkasy, led by Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv, were able to defend their cathedral from the attackers from the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU).

The Metropolitan spoke about this during a live broadcast in his address.

According to the bishop, a local council deputy was involved in the seizure of the Archangel Michael Cathedral of the UOC in Cherkasy.

Metropolitan Theodosiy urged believers to "defend the cathedral" if the raiders attempt another seizure.

He reminded them that the raiders "do not heed the police" and that "sacred sites must be defended from bandits who did not build them, who do not know how to pray, but only know how to steal, beat, and report to their overseas spiritual master."

Let us recall that earlier this morning, around 3 a.m., approximately 100 people in camouflage and balaclavas forcefully broke into the territory of the Archangel Michael Cathedral of the UOC in Cherkasy, where a nighttime Liturgy was taking place.

The attackers expelled the worshippers from the church grounds, took their phones, and did not allow them to record what was happening. They also dismantled surveillance cameras. The attackers entered the diocesan administration building and seized the cathedral.
