Metropolitan Boholep of Olexandria and Svitlovodsk addressed the faithful following the tragic events that took place near the Archangel Michael Cathedral in Cherkasy. In his message, published on the Olexandria Eparchy's Facebook page, the Metropolitan offered support to his flock during this difficult time, stressing the importance of unity and steadfastness in the face of trials.
"Today, in Cherkasy, truly terrible events took place near the cathedral. Our natural reaction to all the horror that unfolded is understandable. The scenes of confrontations and intense conflicts that we witnessed can evoke not only righteous condemnation and indignation but also panic, fear for the future, and a sense of hopelessness," the UOC hierarch noted.
He called on the clergy and believers to remain steadfast and not to succumb to intimidation. "I ask you, dear fathers, brothers, and sisters, hold firm! The enemy of humankind is not only interested in disorienting us, suppressing our will, but also in breaking even the fragile hope for justice. Of course, there are different views and opinions, but today, more than ever, we must understand our unity around our sanctuaries."
Metropolitan Boholep emphasized the importance of strength of spirit and steadfastness: "We must be strong and firm in our beliefs, not allowing ourselves to be broken or intimidated. All our efforts and prayers should be directed, above all, towards maintaining peace and protecting our sanctuaries, our priests, and our people."
He expressed confidence that moderation, balance, and fortitude would serve as a guarantee against provocations and unforeseen situations: "We must be wise and cautious, not giving even the slightest reason to those who seek it."
In conclusion, the bishop urged not to be afraid and to rely on God's mercy: "I know that with God's help, we will overcome all difficulties and obstacles. Do not be afraid! Remember that fear paralyzes our will and makes us weak. Let us rely on God's mercy, repent of our sins, and call upon God's compassion for help. May the Protection of the Queen of Heaven be over all of us!"
As reported by the UOJ, in Cherkasy, unknown individuals in camouflage seized a UOC cathedral on their second attempt.
