A team of archaeologists from around the world has made a remarkable discovery. In modern-day Egypt, researchers have uncovered an ancient early Christian church dating back more than 1,600 years, reports Gismeteo.

During excavations in the Dakhla Oasis, located in the Egyptian Sahara, archaeologists uncovered the ruins of a Christian religious structure at the Trimithis site. In the era of the Roman Empire, the city of Trimithis played a significant role in trade and logistics.

One of the most significant discoveries at the archaeological site in Trimithis was a Christian church dating back to the mid-4th century.

Archaeologists were particularly surprised by the presence of ancient burial crypts found at the site. Researchers discovered the remains of 17 individuals, including women and children. During the Roman period, patriarchal traditions often dictated burial practices, typically excluding women and children from sacred burial sites.

Experts noted that this discovery demonstrates how the arrival of Christianity in the region influenced not only burial customs but also religious and social patterns.

Previously, it was reported that archaeologists in Armenia had discovered the country's oldest temple.
