On 30 November 2024, the feast day of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople assured the delegation of the Roman Catholic Church that the Phanar is moving towards a shared faith and Eucharist with the Catholic Church.
The Patriarch highlighted the importance of the feast of the Constantinopolitan Church, emphasizing that the presence of the papal delegation at the event signifies a "dialogue of love and truth" between the two Churches.
According to Patriarch Bartholomew, the presence of Catholics at the feast serves as a testimony to a "dialogue of life" and a desire "for unity in faith and for sharing in the Holy Eucharist".
The Patriarch pointed out that the apostles Peter and Andrew, "brothers by flesh", are the founders of the two Churches – of Rome and Constantinople. They "together met Jesus and recognized in His Face the awaited Messiah and Savior of the world".
Earlier, the head of the Phanar declared that a "shared chalice" with Catholics is inevitable.
