The Kyiv-Mohyla Academy administration decided to cancel the planned lecture of philosopher and sociologist Serhiy Chaplyhin after the appeal of Zaporizhzhya LGBT human rights organisation Gender Zed, as reported on the organization’s Facebook page. The lecture on the topic “National identity of Ukrainians in the XXI century” was cancelled because of Chaplyhin’s “homophobia”.

“Mohylianka communicated with us and notified about the cancellation of the lecture,” says the message of Gender Zed. “Thanks to the academy administration for their quick response! As they themselves wrote: ‘Mohylianka has always been, is and will always be a place of freedom, tolerance and safety,’ what we wish for other educational institutions that educate Ukrainian youth.”

Serhiy Chaplyhin confirmed the cancellation of the lecture. He stated that he did not promote any homophobia but was subjected to ‘LGBT censorship’.

“The use of the term ‘homophobia’ is a repressive measure directed against those members of society who do not perceive the entrenchment of homosexual lifestyles in society, but do not experience hatred or unreasonable fear of homosexual individuals,” the philosopher wrote.

In comments to the post of Gender Zed, it was noted that the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy was founded by an Orthodox metropolitan.

“Wasn’t Peter Mohyla homophobic by chance? Maybe there should be some kind of investigation, or else,” Dmytro Shutaiev ironically asked.

“A lecture by a conservative philosopher in Mohyla was cancelled. In Ukraine, only those who have been censored in 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ are allowed to teach young people,” wrote Zhenia Buhrym.

“Well, we should screencap this post and throw it when your community will complain that their events are cancelled,” suggested Vadym Rybachuk.

As earlier reported by the UOJ, Zelensky promised to sign the law on same-sex partnerships.
