The Ukrainian State Film Agency (USFA) has confirmed that it has allocated UAH 20 million for a film about LGBT people “My Young Prince”, Ukrainian News Agency reports on November 8.

“The Council for State Support of Cinematography on 12.10.2021 decided to provide state support for the film project “My Young Prince” in the amount of twenty million hryvnias,” the State Film Agency replied to a request from the news agency.

The premiere of the first Ukrainian LGBT drama is scheduled for July 2022.

The project won the 17th USFA competition. It features a 17-year-old teenager.

“Paul is a 17-year-old mentally sick boy who lives in a luxury mansion, leads a riotous lifestyle and shows an unhealthy affection for his own mother, Sofia, who lives with him,” reads the summary of the plot. “Soon a young guy Antoine and his father Mark intrude on Paul and Sofia’s life. Paul begins a relationship with Antoine while Sofia – with Mark. But no matter how well everything turns out, the appearance of Antoine and Mark leads everyone to a tragedy."

As reported, the Ukrainian State Film Agency will fund a film about gays which uses Christian symbols. As the hierarch of the UOC, Bishop Viktor (Kotsaba), noted, the creation of this film with the money of Ukrainian citizens raises several questions, "the main of which is the following: can the state find another use for 20 million hryvnias?"
