On January 30, 2025, Tetiana Moskalkova, the Russian Federation’s Commissioner for Human Rights, stated in the State Duma that Ukrainian soldiers treated the civilian population of Kursk Region with great humanity, RTVI reports.

According to her, Russians recounted that "Ukrainian servicemen brought them their own food and shared their last supplies."

"We must not dehumanize them and see only an empire of evil," said the Russian ombudsman. Moskalkova also reminded that Ukrainians are Orthodox Christians.

"We must fight for them, for their souls and spirituality. That is what we are doing," she assured.

Yet, Moskalkova did not specify how exactly Russia is fighting for the souls and spirituality of Ukrainians while conducting military operations on Ukrainian territory, .

Earlier, the UOJ reported that in Tokmak, Russian authorities sentenced a UOC priest to 14 years in prison.
