Businessman and politician Petro Poroshenko and his wife Marina received awards from the hands of the head of the OCU Epifaniy Dumenko during the celebrations timed to coincide with the 3rd anniversary of the "unification council". Epifaniy praised the ex-president of Ukraine for past merits, when the schismatics managed to obtain the Tomos in "turbulent historical times".

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone, especially on my own behalf, on behalf of our Local Ukrainian Orthodox Church, to thank the fifth President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko. You have done a lot, notably during the unification council and in turbulent historical times, when we managed to hold a unification council and receive the Tomos of Autocephaly from the Ecumenical Patriarch," the head of the OCU is quoted by the Korrespondent.net website.

At the same time, he added he would remember with gratitude not only what Poroshenko did for the OCU then, but also what he is doing now. Dumenko presented the ex-president of Ukraine with the Cross for Merit to the OCU, while Marina Poroshenko received the order.

Recall that during the 2019 presidential elections, Epifaniy Dumenko openly supported Petro Poroshenko: he went on the so-called tomos tour with him, called him a model leader and even compared him with Saint Vladimir. After the loss of Petro Poroshenko, their connection was not interrupted: this year, in the presence of Patriarch Bartholomew, Epifaniy Dumenko thanked Poroshenko for his contribution in creating the OCU, which caused stormy applause from its supporters.
