International lawyer for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Robert Amsterdam, stated in an interview with Tucker Carlson that there is a person within the Ukrainian government who has been working for years to destroy the UOC.
According to him, that person is Viktor Yelensky. “His lifeblood is to destroy this church. He helps, I'm sure he directs the SBU to jail these priests I work with,” the lawyer said.
When Carlson asked for clarification, Amsterdam reiterated, “Yelensky. Similar to Zelensky but starts in Ye-”. He also noted that this official has written several books, though he believes their content is of little value.
“About what?” Carlson asked.
“Just nothing, everything you can think of against religious freedom,” Amsterdam responded. He added that Yelensky also wrote about the Soviet era, including a book on Zionism and clericalism.
The lawyer stressed that this person currently heads the Department for Religious Affairs and Freedoms in Ukraine (State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience, DESS – Ed.).
Amsterdam also mentioned that despite his policies toward the Church, Yelensky was given special recognition at an international religious freedom conference in Washington.
“Wait, the persecutor of the Orthodox Church was given a position of prominence at a Religious Freedom Conference?” Carlson asked.
“You have that right,” Amsterdam replied.
According to him, it was a huge religious freedom conference, held in Washington right before the National Prayer Breakfast.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that, according to Amsterdam, the creation of the OCU was a special operation by the U.S. government.
