UGCC head: We are being coerced into some imaginary truce

On March 9, 2025, the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), Sviatoslav Shevchuk, expressed outrage in his sermon that Ukraine is being pressured into peace negotiations, which he considers unfair.

"We hear this divine word in very troubling times for Ukraine, Europe, and the entire world. On one hand, we see that today we are paying the highest price for our freedom and independence, while on the other hand, behind our backs, they are trying to bargain with our lives or coerce us into some imaginary truce, which in no way appears as a just peace for Ukraine," Shevchuk stated.

In his opinion, negotiations should be rejected because "the Lord God has a plan for Ukraine’s salvation."

Shevchuk claims that Christ "comes to me and to you today and calls: 'Let’s be together, act together, save together, and build the future of the Ukrainian people together.'"

It will be reminded that Shevchuk previously admitted to hiding men from mobilization.
