In the capital of Egypt, Cairo, a meeting was held between Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and Archbishop Damian, abbot of the monastery of St. Catherine in Sinai, primate of the autonomous Sinai Orthodox Church (as part of the Jerusalem Patriarchate), the website of the Patriarchate of Alexandria reports.
“Patriarch Theodore informed Archbishop Sinai about the question that has arisen in recent weeks in view of the establishment of the Exarchate of the Russian Patriarchate in Africa, a fact that the Patriarchate last week condemned as an ‘invasion’,” writes the website of the Church of Alexandria.
No response from Archbishop Damian has been reported.
Earlier it became known that Patriarch Theodore II would send separate delegations to the Church of Antioch and Jerusalem with an invitation to a meeting of primates and an explanation of his position.
