The faithful of the Cypriot Orthodox Church have launched an online collection of signatures for the resignation of Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus.
According to the petition, which appeared on the online platform avaaz.org on 31 January 2022, Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus should be dismissed because he suspended 12 unvaccinated priests from services in his diocese.
"This is a brutal form of dictatorship and coercion. We call for the immediate resignation of Archbishop Chrysostomos II of Cyprus," the document reads.
At the moment, the petition for the resignation of the head of the Cypriot Church has been signed by 1,888 people.
As reported, 12 clerics of the Cypriot Archdiocese are threatened with dismissal for refusing to be vaccinated.
