On May 3, 2025, on the eve of the Third Sunday after Pascha, Brother Varlaam, a novice of the Transfiguration Monastery in Nescheriv, was tonsured into the lesser schema.

With the blessing of the abbot, the tonsure was performed by Archimandrite Job (Melnyk) directly in a hospital ward, in the presence of several brothers of the monastery.

In monasticism, the newly tonsured monk received the name Theophilus, in honor of St. Theophilus of Kyiv.

Earlier, the UOJ examined why the number of monks in the UOC continues to grow during times of persecution.
