Several thousand people participated in the annual "March for Life" in downtown Dublin on May 5, 2025. Participants told the Irish publication RTÉ that they were looking for a change in Ireland's legislation to ban abortions.
The demonstration gathered at St. Stephen's Green near the Newman University Catholic Church and then proceeded through the main streets of Ireland's capital.
At the rally in front of the parliament building, participants demanded that the Government take "immediate steps" to stop the upward trend in Ireland's "soaring" abortions numbers, breakingnews.ie reports.
Eilis Mulroy from the Pro Life Campaign, which organized the event, told those gathered: "At the heart of public life in Ireland today, there is a discontent, a denialism, an indifference, and a total lack of accountability that has to be confronted and broken. The massive increase in abortions taking place and the refusal of the Government to engage with any viewpoint other than the most radical elements of the pro-abortion movement is proof of the totally skewed discussion that's taking place."
Ireland voted to liberalize its abortion laws in a 2018 referendum. The new legal framework introduced after the referendum provides unrestricted access to abortions up to 12 weeks.
As previously reported, a Scottish pensioner was arrested for her silent protest against abortions.
