Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem expressed hope for the continued development of Orthodox-Catholic dialogue and the restoration of Eucharistic communion between Orthodox and Catholics.
In his message congratulating Pope Leo XIV on his election, he wrote: “We also look forward to the ongoing Orthodox-Roman Catholic international theological dialogue, which has been so constructive, and to which our Patriarchate, as a member of the Orthodox family, remains committed.”
“We pray for this to be the pathway that we may walk together to unity and to full communion in the common Chalice,” he emphasized.
Patriarch Theophilos also congratulated the newly elected pontiff, Pope Leo XIV, and expressed confidence that he would continue the mission of his predecessors in supporting Christians in the Holy Land.
“May the risen Lord enlighten Pope Leo’s heart and mind as he enters into the new responsibility that Divine Providence has placed upon him,” Patriarch Theophilos concluded.
Earlier, UOJ reported that Patriarch Theophilos welcomed Pope Leo as a pilgrim to the Holy Land.
