It is absurd: ROC responds to the Greeks' idea to deprive it of autocephaly
The proposal of one of the metropolitans of the Greek Orthodox Church to temporarily deprive the Russian Orthodox Church of autocephaly for the establishment of its Exarchate in Africa is absurd. This was stated by Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, the Secretary for Inter-Orthodox Relations of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church, RIA Novosti reports.
“Of course, the very statement of the question is absurd: it is basically impossible to revoke autocephaly from anyone. This is about the same as if some countries suddenly revoke independence from Russia,” Yakimchuk told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the hierarch of the Church of Greece proposed to deprive the Russian Orthodox Church of autocephaly for five years.
