On May 19, 2025, after a phone call between the Presidents of the USA and Russia, Donald Trump stated that negotiations to end the war between Ukraine and the Russian Federation "will immediately start negotiations". He emphasized that he informed Presidents Zelensky, Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb about this.
According to Trump, the venue for the negotiations should be the Vatican.
"The Vatican, as represented by the Pope, has stated that it would be very interested in hosting the negotiations. Let the process begin!" Donald Trump emphasized.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that, according to Pope Leo, the Vatican is ready to provide its territory for negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
