The next preparatory meeting of the Slavyansk District Court of the Donetsk region regarding the case of Metropolitan Arseniy of Sviatohirsk took place on May 15, 2025, reports the press service of the Svyatohirsk Lavra.
At the previous meeting on April 14, the court began reviewing documents in which the lawyers requested, in particular, permission to obtain new evidence indicating the absence of the elements of the alleged offense in the actions of Metropolitan Arseniy.
On May 15, the court, having completed the review of these documents, rejected the defense's motion.
The court's ruling is not subject to appeal.
The next hearing of the Slavyansk court regarding the case of the UOC hierarch is scheduled for May 22, on the day of the Lavra's patronal feast. During the meeting, the prosecutor's motion to extend the detention of Metropolitan Arseniy will be considered.
As reported by the monastery, the lawyers are preparing statements of guarantors and gathering other documents in favor of changing the measure of restraint for Metropolitan Arseniy to one not related to detention.
As reported by the UOJ, the hierarch has been in Dnipro pre-trial detention center for over a year, since April 24, 2024. In March 2025, the Slavyansk court once again extended the detention of the abbot of the Sviatohirsk Lavra for two months, until the end of May. On April 21, the Dnipro Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the first instance court.
