Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, who is unofficially referred to as the "Father of the Tomos" for his role in the establishment of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), attended a Uniate liturgy at the Kyiv Cathedral on Trinity Sunday and offered prayers.
After the event, Poroshenko posted a status on Facebook, in which he wrote that, in addition to the heavenly trinity, there is also an "earthly trinity," which he associated with the slogan of his 2019 presidential campaign: "Army–Faith–Language" ("армія-віра-мова").
He emphasized that "it is very important for us to preserve our faith".
"Although I am Orthodox, today I visited the service at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ of the UGCC by invitation," the ex-president wrote.
According to him, he was attracted to the Uniate cathedral by "strong-spirited people with whom we prayed together".
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that for 2024 Independence Day, the Poroshenko Foundation placed billboards with the "army-faith-language" slogan on the streets of Ukrainian cities, but the authorities make them be removed.
