On June 25, 2025, the feast day of Venerable Onuphrius the Great, the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije, congratulated His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine on the day of his heavenly patron. This was reported by the Information and Education Department of the UOC.
In his letter, Patriarch Porfirije addressed the Primate of the UOC with words of brotherly love and support.
“On behalf of the entire Serbian Orthodox Church and from us personally, please accept our sincere congratulations on the feast of your heavenly patron and intercessor, one of the greatest ascetics – Venerable Onuphrius the Great,” the message reads.
Referring to the sufferings of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the Patriarch expressed admiration for His Beatitude Onuphry’s steadfastness in confessing the Gospel of peace and truth.
“Rejoicing in the words of the God-inspired psalmist David, who prophesied about Christ’s sufferings and resurrection with these words: Though you have made me see many troubles, severe and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up (Psalm 70:20), with deep anxiety and sympathetic brotherly love, but also with faith in the victory of love over hatred, life over death, we look upon the patience of the saints (Revelation 14:12) in Ukraine. At the same time, we admire your unwavering witness to the Gospel of peace and truth during times of severe trials, persecution, and injustices that have befallen the Holy Church entrusted to you,” the Serbian Patriarch noted.
He wished Metropolitan Onuphry spiritual and physical strength, wisdom, and steadfastness in the faith so that he might continue to strengthen his flock.
“Entrusting ourselves to your holy prayers, in a spirit of brotherly love, we greet Your Beatitude with a holy kiss, with prayerful wishes that you may continue to labor to the glory of God and to the joy of the fullness of Christ’s Church, crying out from the depths of our hearts: Many and good years to you, Your Beatitude Vladyka!” the Primate of the Serbian Church concluded.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that His Beatitude had been congratulated on his name day by the Primate of the Polish Church, the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, and the ROCOR head.
