Metropolitan Dimitrios of Argirokastro laid to rest in Albania’s Cathedral

On 1 July 2025, the funeral service for the late Metropolitan Dimitrios of Argirokastro was held at the Resurrection of Christ Cathedral in Tirana, Romfea reports.
The service was celebrated by hierarchs of the Albanian Church: Metropolitans Nikolaos of Apollonia and Fier, Antonios of Elbasan, Astios of Berrat, Vlora and Kanina, Nathaniel of Amanatia, Bishop Theophilos Anastasios of Krigya, along with numerous clergy from the Metropolis of Gjirokastër and other dioceses.
Following the service, in accordance with Metropolitan Dimitrios’s wishes, his body will be buried in the village of Dropull, near the pilgrimage Church of St. Paraskevi.
Metropolitan Dimitrios served the Albanian Church for more than 30 years, including 19 years as Metropolitan of Argirokastro. He passed away on 28 June 2025 at the age of 85 after a long illness.
Metropolitan Dimitrios made a significant contribution to the revival of Orthodoxy in Albania’s southern regions. A member of the monastic brotherhood of St. Catherine’s Monastery on Sinai, he was known for his deep knowledge of Orthodox tradition. At the monastery, he worked in paleography and the cataloging of ancient manuscripts.
