On October 14, 2025, restoration work began in the Romanian village of Sarta, in the Apuseni Mountains, on an old wooden Orthodox church from the 18th century dedicated to the Descent of the Holy Spirit. The project team Biserici în lemn reported this on its Facebook page.
The project received funding from the Romanian National Heritage Institute under the program “Stamp of Historical Monuments 2025.” Specialists from various fields – architects, engineers, archaeologists, restorers, and biologists – have been engaged in the work. They will study the condition of the building, strengthen its structures, restore the wall paintings, and improve the grounds around the church.
The project involves the city hall of Baia de Arieș and several educational and cultural institutions. According to the organizers, the goal of the restoration is not only to preserve a unique monument of wooden architecture but also to demonstrate how such churches can be carefully restored with respect for tradition and history.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that a roadside cross destroyed by OCU activists had been restored in Kedyna Hora.
