Bukovyna authorities give UOC communities ten days to move to the OCU
Deputies of the Berehomet village council of the Chernivtsi region called on the local communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to “take measures” for the transition to the OCU within ten days, according to the official Facebook page of the Berehomet authorities.
On May 23, 2022, an extraordinary session of the Berehomet Council, deputies made a decision to set up a working group “on the issue of the activities of the UOC in the territory of the community” headed by the village head Sergei Bodnariuk. The group is supposed to conduct "sensitization" with the clergy and laity of the UOC, who are recommended to "take measures to change their canonical affiliation and transfer to the OCU" within 10 days.
The authorities oblige the communities of the UOC to notify them of the date and place of the church meetings on the transition and to inform the Berehomet Council in writing "about the progress and results of the decision to change the canonical affiliation."
The deputies also decided to appeal to Vladimir Zelensky, the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers to “regulate the activities” of the UOC at the legislative level by transferring it to the OCU.
