Driver plows into Christmas market crowd in Guadeloupe, 10 people killed

On December 6, 2025, in the French territory of Guadeloupe, a speeding car drove into a group of people standing near a food truck at a Christmas market. At least ten people were killed and nine others injured. The incident was reported by the local television channel Radio Caraïbes Internationale (RCI).
The tragedy occurred on a square opposite the town hall and a church, where preparations for festive events were underway and Christmas lights had already been lit.
The cause of the incident has not yet been determined. Witnesses told RCI that the driver might have suffered a heart attack or another medical emergency, though this version has not been officially confirmed. Other sources report that the man may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs. According to media reports, the driver did not attempt to flee and remained at the scene until police arrived.
Firefighters, medics, and law enforcement quickly responded to the site. The mayor of Sainte-Anne established a crisis unit to assist the families of the dead and injured. Authorities described the event as a “horrific tragedy” and expressed condolences to local residents.
