The hearing of the Northern Appellate Court on the lawsuit filed by the Ministry of Culture seeking the eviction of monks from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was postponed due to the judge’s sudden illness, according to Svitlana Kotliarevska, director of the Lavra Reserve.
The official complained that she learned of the cancellation only an hour before the session was due to begin. According to Kotliarevska, the case on evicting the monks is of exceptional importance, since the Lavra is “Ukrainian and must belong to the Ukrainian people.”
Kotliarevska did not explain why monks of the UOC, who hold Ukrainian citizenship, cannot live and pray in the monastery.
According to her, the hearing has been postponed to an unspecified date.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the court hearing on banning the Kyiv Metropolia had been postponed indefinitely.
