The Volyn archaeological expedition in the historical site "Apostolshchyna" within the territory of the Okolny city of the princely Vladimir in Volyn found a treasure with crosses and ornaments. This was reported by the head of the expedition Viktor Bayuk on his Facebook page.

The "Merchant's Treasure" "consists of 573 intact Old Rus’ glass bracelets, a massive encolpion cross, 9 small bronze and 8 small marble crosses worn on the body, and other items," Bayuk noted in the publication.

The discovery of such a number of items is unprecedented in the history of archaeological research of the Kievan Rus period.

Researchers have hypothesized that the owner of the items was a merchant who was either bringing them to the market in Vladimir or fleeing to Volyn from war. The head of the excavation indicated that the treasure was hidden during the Mongol-Tatar invasion of Vladimir at the end of 1241.

After scientific description, the materials will be transferred to the Volodymyr Historical Museum named after Omelyan Dvernytskyi.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that a fragment of the Temple, about the destruction of which Christ spoke, was found in Jerusalem.
