Head of the Anglican Church dies

Buckingham Palace has announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen of England died on September 8, 2022, at the age of 97.

Elizabeth II died in the afternoon surrounded by her family.

The British throne legally passes to Prince Charles. At the same time, he will not necessarily be Charles III, since he can choose his own throne name.

King Charles and The Queen Consort will stay overnight at Balmoral before returning to London on September 9, according to Buckingham Palace.

The British flag is lowered to half-mast at Buckingham Palace. A 10-day mourning has been declared.

In addition to all secular titles as the current monarch, Elizabeth II led the Anglican Church.

Henry VIII became the first head of the Anglican Church. This happened in 1534 when London broke with the Vatican. Subsequent acts of Parliament secured the role of the secular head of the Church for the monarch and the status of the state one for the Anglican Church. The Archbishop of Canterbury, in turn, is the spiritual head of the Anglican Church and is recognized as the first among equal bishops of other Anglican Churches in the world.

Queen Elizabeth II led the Anglican Church for 70 years.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that Metropolitan Kallistos of Diokleia (Ware) reposed in the Lord in Oxford.
