Iсon of St. Sergius of Radonezh myrrh-streams in Kyiv church

On 7 October 2022, in Kyiv Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh at 14, Umanska Street, the icon of the saint started myrrh-streaming on the eve of the great consecration by the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, as reported on the Facebook page of the temple.

According to eyewitnesses, on this day in the lower church of the Prince Alexander Nevsky the evening service was being prepared. There was a decorated icon of St. Sergius with a part of holy relics on the lectern. People were putting their hands on the icon before the All-Night Vigil began and suddenly felt the fragrance of it, and when the service began, they saw drops on the face and hands of the saint.

When Metropolitan Filaret and the rector of the temple, Archpriest Yaroslav Shovkenik, opened the kiot, the temple was filled with fragrance. A fragrant liquid, which resembled the fragrance of the relics of St Sergius of Radonezh, Job of Pochaev or Demetrius of Thessaloniki, was streaming down the face of the saint. The persistent fragrance was different from the usual scents of the flowers that decorated the kiot.

"The believers understand and feel this smell; it is unusual because it also carries with the smell a certain grace. This was also the case in the temple at that moment. The people were in spiritual joy and confusion, feeling the grace," it said.

Metropolitan Filaret and the rector of the temple took a few photos and also felt that the liquid was oily, and after touching it the fragrance was all around the service.

During the polyeleos, a single drop was taken with an anointing brush and diluted in the anointing vessel.

"By the grace of God, on the eve of the consecration of the church, St. Sergius revealed a miracle through which he showed his presence among us. Reverend Father Sergius, pray to God for the cessation of war and peace in Ukraine," they added on the Facebook page.

As reported earlier, the Church celebrates the repose of St. Sergius of Radonezh.
