Yelets Icon of Mother of God venerated in ancient monastery of Chernihiv

On February 19, 2026, Metropolitan Clement (Vecheria) celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Dormition Yelets Women's Monastery in Chernihiv on the feast day of the Yelets Icon of the Mother of God, reports the press service of the Chernihiv Eparchy.
The service was attended by Archbishop Nicodim of Lubech and Archbishop Theodosiy of Ladan. They were concelebrated by the clergy of the Nizhyn Eparchy and guests from the Polish Orthodox Church.
Abbess Maria (Makienko) and the sisters of the convent prayed during the service.
During the litany of fervent supplication, prayers were offered for peace in Ukraine and for the preservation of the Church, facing persecution. After the prayer before the ambo, a service of glorification was performed before the miraculous the Yelets Icon of the Mother of God.
After the Liturgy, Bishop Clement addressed the faithful with a pastoral word.
As the UOJ reported, the court denied the Ministry of Culture's request to evict the Yeletsk Convent in Chernihiv. This monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Ukraine, founded in the 11th century.
