On the night of February 20–21, 2026, the Greco-Sophia UOC church dedicated to the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in Kherson came under shelling, according to the press service of the Kherson Eparchy.
The Greco-Sophia church is the oldest church in Kherson. Built in 1780, it is one of the city’s most ancient structures and is listed as an architectural monument of national significance.
During the bombardment of the city, the Greco-Sophia church once again suffered damage. Icons and liturgical vessels inside the church were affected, as were the walls, doors, windows, and the surrounding grounds.
As the UOJ previously reported, the same church was shelled earlier while the Divine Liturgy was being served.
