German evangelists call for ceasefire talks in Ukraine
On October 31, 2022, the Reformation day, the chairperson of the Council of the Evangelical Church of Germany (ECG) Annette Kurschus called for ways to de-escalate the war in Ukraine, reports deutschetageszeitung.de.
“Peace can only be achieved through negotiations,” said Annette Kurschus in a sermon delivered in the castle church of the city of Wittenberg, the cradle of the Reformation (Saxony-Anhalt). While it is still premature to talk about ending the war, she said, “ceasefire talks” need to be launched. Kurshus urged "not to neglect the negotiations, to believe in the power of the word, to trust in small steps."
“The alternative to a just world should not be endless war. War should never replace politics,” Kurschus stressed and called on Christians to pray for peace.
As the UOJ wrote, new parishes of the UOC began to operate in Germany.
