Metropolitan Eulogiy (Hutchenko) reported damage to the Presentation of the Lord Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in Sumy as a result of new shelling that occurred on March 1, 2026, reports the information portal of the Sumy Eparchy.
According to the hierarch, shells exploded near the church, which resulted in the shock wave and shrapnel damaging the walls and fence of the sanctuary. Windows were blown out in the building, and part of the roof was damaged. Despite the danger, the rector and parishioners continue to gather for divine services. Prayer services for peace and the preservation of the city are held in the church.
Metropolitan Eulogiy expressed support for the clergy and laypeople, emphasizing their steadfastness and faithfulness to the Church. The eparchy has organized assistance for restoring the damaged sections of the church, and volunteers have already begun work to strengthen the walls and roof.
As the UOJ reported, in Sumy, the UOC Chapel of Saint Prince Yaroslav the Wise was damaged due to shelling. Previously, other UOC churches in the Sumy region also suffered destruction, but all of them are gradually being restored through the efforts of clergy and parishioners.
