Over 1,100 catechumens in U.S. preparing to receive baptism at Easter

More than 1,100 catechumens in the Midwest Diocese of the Orthodox Church in America are preparing to be received into Orthodoxy at Pascha, UOJ-USA reports.

According to diocesan officials, more than 1,100 men and women across the region are now undergoing catechesis and spiritual preparation before entering the Church. Priests, deacons, and lay catechists are accompanying them and helping them prepare for the Sacraments of Baptism, Chrismation, and Holy Communion.

Fr. Esteban Vazquez, vice chancellor of the diocese, noted that Great Lent has historically been the most important period for preparing those who have decided to become part of the Church. Through prayer, fasting, and participation in the services, catechumens are strengthened in the faith and gradually enter into the life of their parishes. According to the priest, this season helps them prepare their hearts to receive the gifts of grace.

The diocese described the large influx of new members as a sign of hope and spiritual renewal. Clergy and faithful were urged to pray for the catechumens during this important period.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Orthodox Church in America raised $700,000 for Ukrainians in Poland.
