The population of Ukraine currently levels at approximately 20 million people. This figure was announced by Will Lloyd, deputy editor of the British resource New Statesman, citing data obtained from a high-ranking British official.

According to the journalist, these indicators testify to "extraordinary changes" in the demographic structure of society. In the early 1990s, Ukraine's population was 52 million people, but over the years of independence and against the backdrop of recent tragic events, it has decreased by more than 30 million.

British officials note that as recently as 2014, the country's population was estimated at approximately 40 million people, but by 2025 this figure has effectively halved. Experts cite both high mortality rates and the mass exodus of millions of citizens abroad as the main causes of this catastrophic situation.

"I can't imagine what this does to a society - when people die and leave. Honestly, I can't envision what Ukraine will be like in 2040," Lloyd states, emphasizing the scale of the ongoing national tragedy.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that by 2050 Ukraine will have become the world leader in youth deficit.
