New monastics tonsured at Putyvl’s Molchensky Convent

On April 5, 2026, on the feast of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem, a monastic tonsure was performed at the UOC’s Molchensky (Molcha) Convent of the Nativity of the Theotokos in the city of Putyvl, Sumy region, according to the press service of the Konotop Eparchy.

The rite of tonsure, held in the Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, was led by Metropolitan Roman of Konotop and Hlukhiv.

During the service, Hieromonk Filaret received the name of the Righteous Philaret the Merciful, while Deacon Mykola was tonsured in honor of St. Vassian of Uglich-Ryabovsky.

At the end of the service, Metropolitan Roman offered spiritual guidance to the newly tonsured monks.

As UOJ previously reported, on the same day, a great schema tonsure was also performed at the UOC’s Sofroniyevo-Molchensky Monastery in the village of Nova Sloboda, Sumy region.
